What is CMSMS ?
Coal mine Surveillance & Management System (CMSMS) is a system for surveillance & monitoring of any illegal coal mining activity taking place in the coalfield region.

What is block boundary ?
Boundary demarcating the area having geological coal reserves

What is leasehold boundary ?
A boundary within which permission is given by competent authority for coal mining and all related mining activities.

What is illegal coal mining ?
Any unauthorised coal mining activity beyond the Lease boundary and up to 100 mtrs of the periphery of Lease boundary by unauthorised personnel/ agencies.

What is CIL ?
CIL or Coal India Limited is Public Sector Coal Mining company with seven subsidiaries viz ECL (Eastern Coalfields Limited), BCCL (Bharat Coking Coal Limited), CCL (Central Coalfields Limited), NCL (Northern Coalfields Limited), SECL (South Eastern Coalfields Limited), MCL (Mahanadi Coalfields Limited), WCL (Western Coalfields Limited) & CMPDI (Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited).

What is SCCL ?
The Singareni Collieries Company Limited or SCCL is a government-owned coal mining company in India. One of the public sector undertakings, the company is jointly owned by the Telangana government (51 percent) and the Union Government (49 percent). The Union Government's administration of the company is through the Ministry of Coal.

What is a CIL Block?
A geological coal block belonging to Coal India Limited (CIL) for coal mining.

What is a Non-CIL Block ?
Coal blocks other than CIL blocks are non-CIL Blocks.

What is a Captive Block?
A geological coal block allotted to Companies for mining of coal for their own use/ other assigned purposes for which allocation / auction has been done.

How an illegal coal mining activity is identified through CMSMS ?
There are two ways in which illegal coal mining is reported/ identified through CMSMS: Through periodic scanning of Satellite imagery (In house) Through mobile app “Khanan Prahari” (Public)

How and from where can you report illegal coal mining ?
Illegal coal mining activity can be reported to the concerned authorities through mobile app called (“Khanan Prahari”) from the respective place of incidents in the coalfield area with 100 mtrs buffer.

Who all can report illegal coal mining incidents ?
Any person/ group/ organisation with a smart phone can report the incident through the mobile app “Khanan Prahari”.

What happens to reported illegal coal mining incidents ?
The incidents are reported to Nodal Officer to take suitable action

Can anyone see the status of reported incidents ?
Yes. Against the given reference number, one can find the status of reported incidents in the CMSMS website https://ncog.gov.in/CMSS

How ‘Khanan Prahari’ works ?
Khanan Prahari mobile app can be downloaded & installed in smart phone from google play store. The app has a provision for reporting illegal coal mining activity along with uploading geotagged photograph of the incident to the system, where reference number will be generated. The reported incidents will be analysed & suitable action will be taken by concerned authorities. The action taken can be viewed on the CMSMS website.
